Juran launches advanced models after years of research and development
Pomegranates are celebrated for their high nutritional value and health benefits, driving growing demand for the fruit in Israel and worldwide. While home consumers often use small tools to extract arils, large-scale processing requires efficient commercial machines. Responding to this need, Juran introduced its first aril extraction machine in 2005, after years of research in collaboration with the Volcani Institute of Agricultural Engineering.
The result was the ArilSystem, registered as an Israeli innovation and patent-owned by the State of Israel, with Juran responsible for production, marketing, and sales. Since the first launch, Juran has continued to refine the system, developing multiple models to match different production volumes.

Juran – An Israeli Leader in Agri-Tech Innovation
Juran is a family-owned Israeli company with over 50 years of experience, specializing in agricultural machinery, food industry equipment, and conveyor systems. The company is recognized worldwide as a leader in Fresh Cut technologies.
Its subsidiary, Fresh Defrost, provides unique solutions for treating fruits and vegetables before freezing, ensuring frozen products retain their quality, shape, and properties after thawing.
Over the years, Juran has registered six patents, four of them in agricultural automation, including:
- Pomegranate aril extraction technology (with the Volcani Institute)
- Lychee color preservation without sulfur
- Pre-freezing treatment of fruits and vegetables to reduce juice loss during thawing (Fresh Defrost)
- Stone and clod separation rollers for potatoes and root vegetables
ArilSystem – Matching the Model to Your Output
Today, Juran markets four main ArilSystem models:
- JU-10 – one extraction head, up to 10 fruits per minute
- JU-20 – two extraction heads, up to 20 fruits per minute (upgradeable to JU-28)
- JU-28 – two extraction heads, up to 28 fruits per minute
- JU-56 – four extraction heads, up to 56 fruits per minute
Each model is tailored to different market needs. For example, the one-headed JU-10 was originally designed for India, where fruits are smaller and margins are lower. Its affordability, easy maintenance, and fast return on investment made it Juran’s best-selling model worldwide.
Operating according to manufacturer guidelines, ArilSystem machines deliver 95% marketing-quality arils without cutting the fruit, preserving freshness. On average, 3 kg of fruit produces 1 kg of arils.
Recently, Juran introduced a new generation dual-head machine, combining the strengths of its previous models. It delivers the highest extraction efficiency on the market, with minimal mechanical damage, quiet operation, and low maintenance costs.
Service, Support, and Added Value
Beyond advanced technology, Juran prides itself on service and reliability. Every machine is installed and integrated on-site by Juran’s team, with follow-up visits to ensure performance and customer satisfaction. Remote support is available for troubleshooting, upgrades, and optimization at minimal cost.
Juran also provides complementary solutions for the pomegranate industry, including systems for:
- Packing arils (Fresh Cut)
- Juice extraction and bottling
- Oil extraction from seeds
- Drying arils and peels
- High-quality freezing systems
Global Growth and Market Trends
The COVID-19 pandemic challenged in-person sales, but demand remained strong. “When there is demand, there are sales – despite restrictions,” says Avner Galili, Juran’s CEO. The Fresh Cut market in Europe grew by 20–25% in recent years, with similar steady growth in the U.S.
Customer satisfaction and proven reliability have led to ongoing repeat business. Today, Juran exports ArilSystem machines to Turkey, Germany, Greece, Portugal, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, the U.K., and Australia, among other markets.
